Regina

YQR- Regina, SSK; October 2017

My brother moved up to Regina sometime last year, and our naturally explanatory and inquisitive nature led us right up there behind him for a visit.

We found tickets via Google Flights, Roundtrip for $318 each with Westjet. However, each leg had to be booked individually with the returning flight booked via Delta due to it being a code share flight. This was the perfect getaway leaving Thursday evening after work and returning Sunday afternoon. Which have us almost 3 Fulls days in Regina. Most importantly it only cost me 1 PTO day. If you haven't learned this yet, Mrs.C is quite serious about her PTO days.

After careful consideration we booked a room at the Hotel Saskatchewan, Autograph Collection which is a part of the Marriott family. We paid around $140 CAD a night before taxes & fees. Which was another steal for a 4-5* Hotel. We booked our rental car with Budget Via Priceline. It was around $86 for Friday-Sunday Morning in a full sized vehicle. However once we returned to the airport to pick up the rental they upgraded us to a Fully loaded Dodge Durango. Yay, win for us!

We had a 2.5 hour layover in Calgary. Mr.C didn't get a stamp, as they don't typically stamp American passports. However if you ask, I'm sure they would oblige. The airport is huge and they have the cutest little shuttles to take you from terminal to terminal. We had to leave our terminal in order to find food as there was only a Starbucks in our terminal. We settled on Chilis in order to waste some time.

The Trip:

I think that the taxi driver from our ride in must have taken the scenic route to increase the fair because the ride back to the airport to pick up the rental card literally took half the time.

Once we picked up the rental car we headed to pick up my brother for breakfast who was staying near the University of Regina. The fall colors were everywhere, leaves covered the trees and streets. It was absolutely Beautiful and the weather was perfect  a nice 70 degrees.  It felt like home. We felt like we were supposed to be there. The backdrop to the University is a huge beautiful lake. We immediately decided one of the kids would have to enroll there so that we would have a reason to return.

By this time we were starving and headed to Smittys on Golden
Mile for a hearty breakfast. The three of us all had some type scramble. We were not disappointed. The service was good and the cost was decent. No complaints. Once breakfast was finished we headed next door to the Canadian Superstore to pick up some souvenirs and other regalia. While my brother shopped for some home essentials. We drove around a bit and I found a Marshalls. And of course I had to stop. If you're a Rae Dunn fan they literally had Everything, even the unicorns. Unfortunately, we brought backpacks and I didn't have room for too many extras. We also walked around the Southlake Mall. There weren't too many stores of interest. A few sports stores and lots of boot stores. After shopping we dropped my brother off and headed back to the hotel for a nap before our next activity.

We woke up and headed to Mosaic Stadium in full Roughrider gear to catch Canada's version of the Dallas Cowboys. The parking was just as you'd expect...Insane. There were so many Roughrider fans at the stadium, that I thought they were playing themselves. It was just a never ending sea of green. Thank goodness we were actually able to find parking directly across the street in a residential neighborhood. Best of all it was free and only 3 blocks away. By this time the weather had changed drastically and we realized we weren't in Texas anymore todo. The weather had dropped to -2 celsius. It was the type of weather Katt Williams talked about in his stand up. You have to shop for Winter clothes up there, our Texas cold weather gear was no match. Thank goodness Mosaic Stadium has a heated area. I was able to convince Mr.C to spend 2 quarters in the heat; and he was able to convince me to spend 2 quarters out in the cold. We had an amazing time and met some really cool people.  I felt like everyone we encountered was a friend. We made so many new friends. We were offered so much food and alcohol. But in hindsight we should have probably taken a few of those shots to keep warm. I realize that's what the locals were doing. Our triple layer of clothing and blanket didn't stand a chance. I was more than thankful when the game was finally over. I hightailed back to the truck in search of warmth. I have never more thankful for heated seats and remote start.

The next morning we headed to Mr.Breafast Regina a local favorite. We didn't find any tourists there, which made it just our type of place. If you're thinking about going there keep in mind that they keep breakfast hours 6am-3pm and they only accept cash. It is a very small place and table seating is limited, so it is likely you will have to wait to be seated. Prices are extremely reasonable, and the food was delicious! I had bacon and eggs and Mr.C had french toast along with Poutine, french fries topped with cheese curds and smothered with gravy. I passed and my brother helped him polish them off.

After breakfast we drove around a bit when we passed a casino. We turned around to go, but there were so many cars lined up to go in that we knew it could be an hour before we got in. We opted to leave. We grabbed some hot chocolate and lattes from Starbucks and hit google when we stumbled upon the Escape Club. None of us had ever done an escape room So we said what the hell and Mr.C booked us a time slot and off we went. We were casually talking with the owner when he slipped in the story for our room. It was pretty seamless. He then took us upstairs and gave us the rundown. We entered the “Genie” room and got straight to work looking for things. We didn’t really know what we were looking for or what we were doing but that didn’t stop us from looking lol. I won’t say anything about the room because I don’t want to ruin the fun for anyone.  The cues we received were right on cue. It was kind of tough, but we had an amazing time. The 3 of us got 5/10 clues in the room and I was kind of perturbed, I hate to lose. We left and booked another time to come back. The owner was awesome and called us back about 10 minutes later to let us know that if we could make it back there was an earlier time slot. We went back and were able to complete the room. Yay! We had an amazing time and next time we’re in Regina we will definitely be heading back to complete the other room! It’s a must do when in REGINA!
We were famished after 2 hours in the Escape room and lots of driving around. We headed to dinner at the Diploma Steakhouse. It was everything you would imagine from a high end steakhouse. And unfortunately we didn't get the memo and we walked in dressed in athletic gear, except Mr.C who was a bit extra and dressed up a bit. We got lots of stares, but we didn't care. We could cover the bill and that's all that mattered. The food was amazing. The steaks were so tender, and lobster succulent. No complaints. None at all and I usually have a few.
This concluded our trip to Regina. It's not goodbye, but until we see you again <3
